When your job requires you to attend meetings, the Borg, (from the 'Star Trek' TV series), said it best; "Resistance is futile."
I think we can all agree that staying alert in meetings can be very beneficial. For one thing, you can ask for clarification if you donʼt understand something. Also, you may be able to provide valuable insight if you question the wisdom of a decision.
But, most people would rather be anywhere else - with the possible exception of being in a dental chair - than in a meeting.
Unfortunately, this makes it hard for many to pay attention and remain alert, causing a lot of daydreaming.... or even worse, real dreaming.
Also, what if some very important decision makers are attending the meeting? It could be a major career faux pas to take a snooze or get caught not paying attention.
So, if you must be in meetings, here are a few simple tips you can share with your employees to help.
Get to the meeting early.
If possible, sit opposite the leader so that you can look directly at him or her. This will help you pay attention.
Stay alert.
Sit on the edge of your chair. This will give you more energy, and it will help you stay alert.
Take notes.
Even if you are not the official note taker, taking notes will make it easier for
you to listen and concentrate on what everyone is saying.

We should be alert during meetings
because if we are absent minded or had slept during the meeting we will be out of the topic and can't catch up.
